Central Co-op welcomes Board members

Central Co-op is delighted to announce the appointment of its 2024 Board directors. New appointments will join the existing Board in driving the strategic direction of the Society, ensuring it continues to serve the best interests of its Members while upholding the core values and principles of the co-operative movement.

As part of a its Co-op difference, Central Co-op’s Board of Directors is elected by and from its’ Members. The Board’s role is to collaborate closely with the Executive Team in monitoring the Society's performance, achieving strategic objectives and holding the Chief Executive to account for day-to-day operations. The Society’s Board comprises 13 directors, including one Independent Non-Executive Director and three Employee Directors.

Following the 2024 elections, Amanda Gallie, Becci Britland, Sue Rushton and Val Watson have joined the Board

Amanda Gallie
Amanda is a colleague Board Director and began her journey with Central Co-op in 2001 after a career in local education. With 23 years of experience in the funeral profession, Amanda brings extensive transferable skills to her new role. She aims to ensure the Society is sustainable for the future by combining her knowledge and skills and representing all trading areas. Amanda is committed to listening to Members' needs and promoting the Society’s values and principles.

Becci Britland
Becci is also a colleague Director and has held various roles within her 17 years at Central Co-op, she is currently a Store Manager and has been actively involved in the Membership and Community Council for the past eight years. Becci is dedicated to making the Society inclusive for all Members and campaigning on Retail Crime to ensure colleague safety. She aims to create a difference within the Society and looks forward to being a voice for colleagues and Members.

Sue Rushton
A Chartered Certified Accountant with a diverse background in public practice and commerce, Sue has a long history with Central Co-op. Elected to the Board nine years ago, Sue brings a wealth of financial and operational experience. She is committed to upholding co-operative values and ensuring the Society remains strong and profitable for future generations.

Val Watson
Val’s 35-year career in the public and voluntary sectors, particularly in education and senior leadership, brings valuable insights to the Board. Currently an independent psychotherapist and consultant, Val is passionate about community work and social justice. She aims to ensure members have access to high-quality, ethically sourced goods and services while maintaining transparent communication and encouraging Member participation.

These Board members will play a critical role in shaping the future of Central Co-op, ensuring that the Society's affairs are conducted in the best interests of the Society and its Members, and in alignment with co-operative values and principles.
